How lucky I am to have a friend like my Glow + Tell cohort Elena Evangelo, she gifted me one of my now favorite products, NARS Orgasm Illuminator. Inspired by NARS’s CULT classic Orgasm blush this product evolution is intended to multitask, used either as an all over glow, a highlighter, blush, or foundation enhancer. I use it mostly as a cream blush/cheek highlighter. Or sometimes I apply my NARS Orgasm blush and then add a light dab of the illuminator on top. Alone the shimmer helps give my skin a more awake look, and since it is not a powder it keeps my skin from looking dry. In fact it reflects light and makes my skin look more youthful, a dewy look. The Orgasm color is a peachy pink with shimmer and creates a natural glow, very universally flattering.
Tips for application as a blush/cheek highlighter –
- Dab the upper area of your cheekbones with a small amount of illuminator starting at the top of the apples of your cheeks.
- I’d suggest starting with a small amount, as it’s always easier to add on vs. take off.
- Continue to dab upward and around to side of eyes, temple area. If you have fine lines around your eyes, as most of us do, tread lightly in this area. You don’t want the product to illuminate lines so make sure to lighten up on the amount and make sure to blend!
- Maybe or maybe not, top off the uppermost points of your cheekbones with an extra touch of illuminator. This highlight can lift the face by raising the appearance of your cheekbones.
- Lastly give it one last attention to detail and make sure the edges are blended softly out until you end up with a beautiful dewy glow!
The illuminator comes in 4 colors including a stunning new silver illuminator available in the Fall 2012 Holiday Walk On the Wild Side Andy Warhol gift set. The core items in the new Andy Warhol collection are available Oct. 1st at Sephora but the HIGHLY anticipated palettes and gift sets are available on the NARS website come Nov. 1st. If you like a glowy cheek, Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick in Rose delivers! If you need to revive dull skin, Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick in Rose delivers!
With just the right amount of pearly color and sheen to light up the high points of the face, this smooth brush-on powder doubles as a great highlighter and/or a great blush. And unlike most highlighters out there, it somehow doesn’t emphasize pores. The result is subtle, shimmery, healthy, natural looking skin. And the color is perfection! Rose is truly rosy and works on most skin tones for a healthy flush and a luminous glow, all in one package!
As a highlighter:
Swirl your brush over all the 5 colors in the palette to mix them together, and run it over the top of your cheeks, temples, nose, chin, and even lids.
As a blush:
Swirl your brush over all the 5 colors and apply them to the apples of your cheeks. The results? Like Nars Orgasm, but more subtle.
Now, the Shimmer Brick may seem pricey but you do get a lot for your money. This brick will last you years – very little truly goes a very long way!
You can even apply it to the center of your bottom lip before using gloss, for a fuller Jolie pout.

While I love a hearty sun kissed look, I do prefer it from a bottle than the sun. Don’t want to invite any unnecessary wrinklage. But finding a bronzer that does the trick is not an easy task, especially with an olive skintone. Most bronzers either make my skin look muddy or sallow, and baked clay is definitely not the look I’m going after.
But thanks to a couple of dear friends, I discovered Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid in Sunkissed. It imparts a sheer yet radiant healthy glow that truly looks natural! A SUBTLE lit-from-within-look that works on every skin tone!
How To Use:
For a truly a sophisticated luminous glow, mix it into your foundation or apply it after, for a kick on all the high points of the face that the sun would kiss: bridge of nose, cheekbones, temples, chin… No sparkles or glitter here. Soleil Tan De Chanel can even double as a blush for the most luminous of flushes! And a tiny bit goes a long way. This bottle will last you years!
And a bonus, it’s Oil Free, Fragrance Free, and will work on even the palest of skins.
Always shake first.
Blend quickly once you apply it for a subtle but stunning effect.
P.S. It photographs beautifully!

There is almost nothing I love more than glowy skin! It emanates health, vitality, and well-being! Besides honoring the all-important hydration quotient and diligent sun-blocking, a great highlighter can be your skin’s best friend! The light will catch those highlighted points beautifully, imparting dimension to the skin and a luminous sheen!
A subtle but effective highlighter is the iconic YSL Touche Éclat. You can use it to emphasize favorite features or conceal shadows. Skin goes from looking tired and sallow to radiant and energized.
Key Highlighting points:
Draw a line down the bridge of your nose (but not the tip), brow bone (eye lift illusion), tear ducts (bigger brighter, more-wellrested eyes), underneath the eye (banish those dark circles), across the top of your cheekbones (cheekbone enhancement, face lift illusion), and around the center of the outer top lip and the outer bottom lip (for a fuller pout). Then gently pat pat pat until they are well-blended. The line down the bridge of the nose is also a great trick to make your nose look straighter and more narrow. Highlighter is best saved as the last part of your makeup regiment, except for the under-eyes, which should be done before your concealer.

Not a fan of those creases that run from the nose to the corners of your mouth? Do those pesky nasolabial folds seem even more pronounced on dehydrated days? Here is a quick fix (besides drinking tons of water).
Start by taking your favorite concealer and draw some quick lines/ cat whiskers as illustrated in the photo above. Then pat in each line from the bottom up, following the direction you drew it in. Blend until the creases are perfectly disguised!
By working against the direction of the crease, you can blur the depth of the fold, creating a lifting effect. You can even use a highlighter pen like the cult classic YSL Touche Éclat, but I find a concealer stick, in a shade lighter than my skin lasts longer. Try Smashbox’s Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer for great coverage (as the name promises) in stick form.
This trick also works wonders on the elevens, the frown lines between your eyebrows. Draw 2 lines like an equal sign over the number 11 looking lines. And blend, blend, blend.
Give it a whirl! You’ll be amazed!
There are days where gravity seems to take its toll. And for those days, I’ve discovered the perfect weapon! In fact, it’s my favorite weapon every day!! Who can’t use an Instant Eye Lift?!! It’s so easy!
Take your trusty concealer (which is hopefully a tad lighter than your skintone for a brightening effect), and draw a line from the lower orbital bone (closest to the outer bottom eye socket), all the way up to the end of your eyebrow. (As illustrated by the red arrows in the photos.) Then take your ring finger and pat in, blending said concealer.
Voila! Instant eye lift! Not only will you love it but so will the camera! Does wonders in photographs!
And the best part?! It takes 2 seconds and it’s FREE!!
