T. LeClerc – Loose Powder in Orchidee

14 Feb

T. LeClerc Loose Powder Orchidee

Winter sallowness got you down? Does your skin need a pick me up in general? This excessively finely milled loose powder, brightens the skin beautifully, while seemingly erasing flaws. The pale pink shade might look scary in the tin, but it’s a super power at neutralizing yellows and wiping out exhaustion. Say good-bye to pores and hello to well-rested glowing skin!

The French makeup line, T. LeClerc was born in 1881 and in this competitive modern day market, it continues to thrive thanks to its superior products. Orchidee is one my most beloved. First, I  sweep this very lightly over my face with a fan brush. Then I apply an extra layer over my cheeks for the most natural flush. It makes a gorgeous blush. Then I love to add some around the outer edges of my face for glow and definition. Finally, I gently buff it for a second with my beauty blender sponge (but any sponge will do). Another great multi-tasker, Orchidee also works as an subtle eye brightener, counteracting those dark circles.

T. LeClerc Orchidee

Besides being in love with the quality, texture and tone of this powder, I’m obsessed with the packaging. The gorgeous classic tin is oh-so-deliciously French and the fine net lets you get just the right amount of powder on your brush. And the best part, the rice powder base makes this a friend to the most sensitive of skins.

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer

19 Nov

Let’s face it. After a few hours of wear, even the best concealers will start to fade. I have searched high and low for  a concealer that won’t let me down. Now, while I’ve discovered some brilliant concealers, a no-need-to-touch-up concealer has yet to surface. Luckily, I stumbled upon a product that makes my fave concealers budge-proof, crease-proof, heat-proof, and fade-proof. This is going into the Must Haves List!

The Smashbox Under Eye Primer is a true multi-tasker. It’s not only hydrating but super-lightweight, with a silky texture that blends in smoothly and effortlessly. Loaded with caffeine and peptides, it also provides incredible nutrition for the skin. And the optical brighteners in this soft pink formula perk up those dark circles before you even add concealer.

But the best part? Once you pair this primer with concealer, concealer is locked in placed and looks completely natural. Those pesky fine lines disappear and even puffiness seems to be reduced (never an easy thing to accomplish with any product). All that and you need only the tiniest amount. One tube will last you a long time, making the $29 price tag more palatable.

From The Smashbox Site:

• Key immediate benefits:
o 69% increase in hydration-so don’t worry about skipping moisturizer!
o 56% improvement in clarity
o 46% improvement in radiance

• Key benefits in 8 weeks:
o 37% decrease in appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
o 28% reduction of dark circles
o 21% decrease of puffiness

The dreaded international flight. How to do right by your skin while 30,000 feet in the air for 10 hours? Just read on!

PRE-FLIGHT PREP

As important as it is to stay hydrated on a regular basis by drinking water it is doubly as important when you are getting ready to and while flying. Try to double up on your water in-take in the days leading up to your flight. If you aren’t regularly taking a fish oil then add it into your daily regime. The fatty acids in fish oil are proven to both help the brain and cardiovascular function and help skin cells retain moisture. It’s a good idea to also throw some in your carry-on for in-flight or during your time away. It’s a powerful punch for something that doesn’t take up valuable shopping space in luggage.

IN FLIGHT OPERATION

Even if you pick a couple of these tips it will do wonders for your arrival.

1. Drink lots of water even if it means getting up multiple times to the frustration to the aisle passenger.

2. Drink hot water with lemon, refreshing, hydrating, and lemon is key to metabolic boosting!

3. Use a Hydrating mist every few hours to keep your skin feeling refreshed and stop it from getting tight. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater
Price: $11.95

4. During the flight, in addition to spritzing your mist, try to re-apply your moisturizer.  The constant air conditioning can suck the life out of your skin, so even if your skin is usually oily, you’ll notice it absorbing moisturizers much faster.

5. Apply lip balm. The same applies for the lips in that the cabin air will suck the nourishment up so try Smith’s Rosebud Salve, $6.00 or Caudalie Lip Conditioner, $12.00 both available at Sephora.

6. Sanitize – A breeding ground for germs it’s important to make sure you land healthy on the other end. The worst would be to find yourself on an amazing vacation and coming down with a cold 2 days later. Sanitize your hands with  L’Occitane Lavender Clean Hand Gel from the Provence to Go Collection, $7.00.

FAVORITE TRAVEL KITS

Trilogy Travellers takes the hassle out of packing and has everything you need to land with a glow. Plus I love the packaging! $37.00

UPON LANDING

Before you land give yourself a quick face wash with either a rinse free cleanser or a cleanser wipe. Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes $4.99 are some of my favorite nourishing wipes! They are non-comedogenic, use no alcohol, and have the added benefits of PRO-VITAMIN B5 which are known to help restore, soften and smooth skin.

Then make sure to re-apply your moisturizer and touch up your make-up with the bare minimum. To mask the jet lag try a concealer, YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch, $40, to cover up dark circles and redness. Then add a couple coats of mascara, such as Covergirl LashBlast Length Mascara, $6.94, to open up your eyes. And lastly, a lip or cheek stain in a soft pink or peach shade to hide any redness from the flight. If you go with a creme it also has the added benefit of creating a dewy look with appears more youthful and energized. It’s better to look clean and effortless while traveling.

Bon Voyage ladies… arrive in style!

NARS Orgasm Illuminator Light up my Life!

2 Oct

How lucky I am to have a friend like my Glow + Tell cohort Elena Evangelo, she gifted me one of my now favorite products, NARS Orgasm Illuminator. Inspired by NARS’s CULT classic Orgasm blush this product evolution is intended to multitask, used either as an all over glow, a highlighter, blush, or foundation enhancer. I use it mostly as a cream blush/cheek highlighter.  Or sometimes I apply my NARS Orgasm blush and then add a light dab of the illuminator on top.  Alone the shimmer helps give my skin a more awake look, and since it is not a powder it keeps my skin from looking dry. In fact it reflects light and makes my skin look more youthful, a dewy look. The Orgasm color is a peachy pink with shimmer and creates a natural glow, very universally flattering.

Tips for application as a blush/cheek highlighter –

  1. Dab the upper area of your cheekbones with a small amount of illuminator starting at the top of the apples of your cheeks.
  2. I’d suggest starting with a small amount, as it’s always easier to add on vs. take off.
  3. Continue to dab upward and around to side of eyes, temple area. If you have fine lines around your eyes, as most of us do, tread lightly in this area. You don’t want the product to illuminate lines so make sure to lighten up on the amount and make sure to blend!
  4. Maybe or maybe not, top off the uppermost points of your cheekbones with an extra touch of illuminator. This highlight can lift the face by raising the appearance of your cheekbones.
  5. Lastly give it one last attention to detail and make sure the edges are blended softly out until you end up with a beautiful dewy glow!

The illuminator comes in 4 colors including a stunning new silver illuminator available in the Fall 2012 Holiday Walk On the Wild Side Andy Warhol gift set. The core items in the new Andy Warhol collection are available Oct. 1st at Sephora but the HIGHLY anticipated palettes and gift sets are available on the NARS website come Nov. 1st. To read more about the the Warhol themed collection check out yesterdays Vogue Daily article!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose

6 Sep

If you like a glowy cheek, Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick in Rose delivers! If you need to revive dull skin, Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick in Rose delivers!

With just the right amount of pearly color and sheen to light up the high points of the face, this smooth brush-on powder doubles as a great highlighter and/or a great blush. And unlike most highlighters out there, it somehow doesn’t emphasize pores. The result is subtle, shimmery, healthy, natural looking skin. And the color is perfection! Rose is truly rosy and works on most skin tones for a healthy flush and a luminous glow, all in one package!

As a highlighter:

Swirl your brush over all the 5 colors in the palette to mix them together, and run it over the top of your cheeks, temples, nose, chin, and even lids.

As a blush:

Swirl your brush over all the 5 colors and apply them to the apples of your cheeks. The results? Like Nars Orgasm, but more subtle.

Now, the Shimmer Brick may seem pricey but you do get a lot for your money. This brick will last you years – very little truly goes a very long way!

Tip:

You can even apply it to the center of your bottom lip before using gloss, for a fuller Jolie pout.

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid

28 Aug

While I love a hearty sun kissed look, I do prefer it from a bottle than the sun. Don’t want to invite any unnecessary wrinklage. But finding a bronzer that does the trick is not an easy task, especially with an olive skintone. Most bronzers either make my skin look muddy or sallow, and baked clay is definitely not the look I’m going after.

But thanks to a couple of dear friends, I discovered Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid in Sunkissed. It imparts a sheer yet radiant healthy glow that truly looks natural! A SUBTLE lit-from-within-look that works on every skin tone!

How To Use:
For a truly a sophisticated luminous glow, mix it into your foundation or apply it after, for a kick on all the high points of the face that the sun would kiss: bridge of nose, cheekbones, temples, chin… No sparkles or glitter here. Soleil Tan De Chanel can even double as a blush for the most luminous of flushes! And a tiny bit goes a long way. This bottle will last you years!

And a bonus, it’s Oil Free, Fragrance Free, and will work on even the palest of skins.

Tips:
Always shake first.
Blend quickly once you apply it for a subtle but stunning effect.

P.S. It photographs beautifully!

Glowy Skin is a Highlighter Away!

27 Aug

There is almost nothing I love more than glowy skin! It emanates health, vitality, and well-being! Besides honoring the all-important hydration quotient and diligent sun-blocking, a great highlighter can be your skin’s best friend! The light will catch those highlighted points beautifully,  imparting dimension to the skin and a luminous sheen!

A subtle but effective highlighter is the iconic YSL Touche Éclat. You can use it to emphasize favorite features or conceal shadows. Skin goes from looking tired and sallow to radiant and energized.

Key Highlighting points:
Draw a line down the bridge of your nose (but not the tip), brow bone (eye lift illusion), tear ducts (bigger brighter, more-wellrested eyes), underneath the eye (banish those dark circles), across the top of your cheekbones (cheekbone enhancement, face lift illusion), and around the center of the outer top lip and the outer bottom lip (for a fuller pout). Then gently pat pat pat until they are well-blended. The line down the bridge of the nose is also a great trick to make your nose look straighter and more narrow. Highlighter is best saved as the last part of your makeup regiment, except for the under-eyes, which should be done before your concealer.
