Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl

Diorshow Iconic Overcurl

Dior has done it again! The Diorshow Iconic Overcurl is a stunner. Smudge-proof, endless curl that holds all day. Full thick voluminous lashes. Superior length without any spideriness. And all in one stroke.

This brand new genius mascara actually strengthens your lashes to prevent breakage, while promoting lash growth. Any negatives? I only found one. Unlike my first love, the original  Diorshow Iconic, you can’t keep building up the coats. The 1st coat of Overcurl is a dream, the 2nd coat is deliciously extreme, but past that,  additional coats begin to get clumpy. Luckily, I can’t imagine why you’d ever need more than two coats with this superpower!

A More Natural & Still Effective Mascara: CoverGirl NatureLuxe Water Resistant Mousse Mascara

20 Dec

Screen shot 2012-12-20 at 11.57.35 AM

I was drawn to this mascara when I noticed a subtle light green tube amongst the many brightly colored CoverGirl Lash Blast mascaras on the shelf. Hmmm, why the change of packaging and branding, what was in this CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara?

Well, what makes this product a little different is that although NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara is not an all-natural product, CoverGirl has swapped out a heavy synthetic ingredient commonly found in mascara which gives the product lightness. By incorporating naturally-derived ingredients like beeswax, tapioca polymers, and carnauba wax— the hope is to deliver a more luxurious product that performs just as well more costly products, but with a “luxury touched by nature” feel. I wouldn’t go so far to say it performs as well as other mascara’s in terms of volume and drama. BUT, it does create a nice clump-less effect that feels light and is great for daily day time use. It’s not as water resistant as other more synthetic water resistant mascara’s either but again a great balance for a more natural look that doesn’t smudge or flake!

I would say for what it is, this mascara is brilliant! I feel like my lashes can breathe a little easier and I prefer a softer look for day time use. It’s easy to apply and with 2-3 coats gives me just enough drama and yet natural-looking clean volume. The wand is fantastic, not stiff hard but not floppy either. And, the shape of the brush and bristles were so that I could reach all lashes, including bottom ones, easily. If you are looking for high volume this probably isn’t the product for you. In other words if you’re looking for result akin to Taylor Swifts ad for the product which was banned, good luck. The ad was banned for excessive photoshop enhancement. But, if you want light and luxurious lashes that have volume without being vampy, give this a try! Your lashes will thank you.

Available in regular and water resistance formulas. Four shades – Very Black, Black, Black Brown, and Brown.

Dior Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum

26 Nov

I  have never understood what the big to-do with mascara serums and primers is. It seemed like a gimmick to me, since every sample I’ve tried left my lashes dry, clumpy, and weighed down. But that all changed when a dear friend introduced me to Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum.

Lashes thickened? Check. Lashes lengthened? Check. Lashes nourished? Check. The super lightweight formula plumps them up for a long, voluminous fringe. One coat of this and 2 coats of your mascara and presto, glamorous super lashes that look natural and real. No spider legs or droopy lashes here.

Now, while I can’t vouch for Dior’s claims that the hydrolized soy proteins in this serum/primer promote hair growth, I love the possibility. At the very least, your lashes will definitely feel stronger and softer. And coupled with mascara, longer and fuller.

Bottom line? If you find the fuss of false eye lashes overwhelming and your natural lashes underwelming, then this primer is for you.

CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara

23 Oct

So this product was just named one of Allure’s 2012 beauty breakthrough products so naturally, I’m intrigued. Especially because as of late I’ve been on a search for a new amazing mascara. My go to for years has been Lancome Definicils and I still love this mascara. However, I wanted to find a more dramatic option for night time or when the mood calls for it. A couple months back I wrote about the Kevyn Aucoin tube technology mascara. I wrote a positive review as I loved, and still do, the rick black color of this mascara. My only warning after now using it a while longer and in different circumstances is, don’t wear it to the workout! I went to a spin class with this mascara on and unbeknownst to me, after 20 minutes of talking to people after class, I then went to the restroom too see black spider-like remnants of mascara on my face. To bad no one had the said anything to me, I was so embarrassed.

The next mascara I tried which I am liking quiet a lot is Stila glamorous mascara. It has a nice thickness to it without feeling to heavy for daytime. And, it opens up the eye a lot with good lengthening. However,  if you apply more than a couple of coats it does start to clump a little bit.

Which brings us to the much anticipated and well priced CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Mascara. Now, this mascara is not out yet, it hits shelves November 1st so this is not an official review.  It’s a PRE-REVIEW and I’d love for you to join me in testing it when it hits stores. Send us feedback and let us know if you think the buzz is true!

Review from November Allure:

True story: As much as we love our mascara, one un-lucky editor at Allure stopped wearing it altogether because she couldn’t find a formula that didn’t clump. That is, until we gave her this new CoverGirl mascara with a brush designed to prevent clump formation entirely.

How it works: Regular mascaras need ingredients to build volume so they inevitably will create clumps. The CoverGirl team came up with a solution: They measured the size of the average visible mascara clump (it’s 325 microns, if you were wondering) and arranged the bristles so close together that clumps couldn’t form. “You can swipe it on repeatedly to build the necessary volume without ever worrying about the mess.

COUPON ALERT – The November issue of both Allure & Lucky both have a $3 off coupon for any two CoverGirl products excluding trial/travel size.

Coming Nov. 1st to a drugstore near you!

Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara

22 Aug

For some reason, I hate to spend a lot of money on mascara. More than any other makeup purchase, expensive mascara seems to feel indulgent. That is until I discovered Dior’s Diorshow Iconic! Not to be confused with the acclaimed Diorshow, which I find much less impressive. A tube of Diorshow feels stiff on the lashes, even though it creates a beautiful full set. But the tube does loose its umpf, drying out very quickly. (The same issues apply to the infamous L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, in my opinion.)

Dior Iconic on the other hand,  lasts an unbelievably longtime.  Granted, you should toss mascara after 3 months to prevent infection, bacteria, etc. Thus, the main reason I hate to spend a lot of money on mascara. But Dior Iconic is truly ICONIC! It defines and curls lashes for a lifted eye. It lengthens, yet thickens beautifully! And all of it looks natural. Soft, supple, full, long, separated, blackest black lashes.  Not spidery, not clumpy, not smudgy, not flaky. Lashes stay flexible and lifted all day, without being dry and cakey. You wont have the “why-are-my-lashes-drooping-by-3-in-the-afternoon-syndrome,” with this extra hold formula. And the best part, if you want to build the drama up for a night out, thanks to its velvety texture, you can reapply Iconic flawlessly, for a buildable false lash look.

Now the brush is a bit odd. Rubbery  and untraditional is the best way to describe it, but I love it. Dior calls it oblique. It does take a nanosecond to get used to, but it will make other brushes seem fussy and a tad ineffective in comparison.

Dior Iconic is THE ticket for truly show-stopping, jaw-dropping  lashes. Hands down, the BEST MASCARA I’ve tried to date! Give it a shot!! I think you are gonna love it!!

TIP:

For a stunning fan of lashes, layer extra coats on the ends. Really get your brush into the base of your lashes and pull up, wiggling the mascara wand as you go to get them separated but well-coated.

FROM DIOR ON THEIR UNIQUE BRUSH:

“Inspired by the tailoring technique of cutting fabric on the bias to create maximum curve, the Iconic brush features soft silicone bristles that spiral around the stem to lift, curl, and separate every lash.”

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

31 Jul

A newbie to this product, as I’ve been a Lancôme Definicils mascara devotee for years. But, as I was browsing around the “oh SO covetable” beauty counters at Barneys, knowing I needed a new mascara, the Kevyn Aucoin counter is where I landed. I was actually looking for Lancôme but realized they don’t sell it at Barneys. As soon as I said mascara, the rep was all over the benefits of this one. Well what sales rep wouldn’t be about their products, but I bought into it.

The Volume Mascara uses tubed-technology to wrap lashes individually vs. more traditional mascara that paints the lashes. Something totally new to me! This also means the first time you remove it, you might be a little afraid your lashes are coming off. They aren’t, it’s simply the tube wrapping around the lash. I found the best way to remove it is to use an eye make-up remover before washing your face. Although, using warm water will work just fine. So far the biggest benefit I can see is less smudging underneath the bottom lashes and the richness of the black color. It is not a curling mascara but the thin brush really does get each lash. Some users seem to complain of clumping but I didn’t get that at all. I still use an eyelash curler along with the mascara which creates both the definition and length I want, along with the curl to open up my eyes. Mission accomplished!
